Omgipsning av hoven (eng)

Jempe har ju lyckats skada hoven i hagen. Tre gånger har han varit på veterinärklinik för att de måste skära rent såret och gipsa hoven för att hålla det rent och fint. Nu var det dags för omgipsning hemma i stallet.

Sist blödde han så mycket att de fick lägga ett skikt bomull
mellan gipset och bandaget för att suga upp blodet. Nu har det

klibbat fast.

Så här fin ser hoven ut idag. Rent och fint, inga infektioner
och det blöder inte. Karin höll upp hoven och jag gipsade.
Först ett lager för att fylla ut groparna i hoven, och göra en
platt yta. Sedan ett lager runt alltihopa på hovens utsida. Och
så klibbiga lindor och sist en mycket klistrigt tejpbandage.
Svårt? Nja, övning ger färdighet. Det är inte första gången
vi fått gipsa hovarna på Jempe. Vi var mycket stolta och nöjda
över resultatet. Hoppas bara det sitter kvar i morgon...

Jempe's had some accident and cut up his right hind hoof. No one knows what happened - it was out in the field one day. It has taken three visits to a vet clinic so far to cut off infected parts, clean it, stop bleading, fill out the hole with plaster and put new bandage on. On thursday it was time to change the plaster again, but this time we had to do it by our selves at the stable. The problem is that when the old plaster is off, he can't be allowed to put down his hoof to rest until it's been cleaned, new plaster is put on and it has been bandaged again.

It's not the first time Jempe's had hoof problems that needed cutting open the hoof and filling it out with plaster. We've done it before, and we're getting pretty good at it. Karin was holding up the hoof while I filled out the holes to make a plain surface, then another layer of plaster around the hoof, then a special teip on top of it and last a bandage.

The hoof looks much better now. No infection, no bleading. A new visit to the vet clinic is sheduled for Monday.
